🌾Agriculture is one on the most weather-sensitive activities one can think of. With climate change, meteorological conditions and seasonal cycles are shifting making it increasingly complex for farmers to plan activities such as fertilizing, planting, irrigating, etc.
That's where we come in 😉!
Within the VIGICLIMM Project we are carrying out for the SODEXAM, we are developing a mobile application aiming at becoming an efficient decision-aid solution that will help Ivorian farmers optimize their daily operations, thanks to tailored agro-weather indicators. This app has been designed for the specific sector of rice production which is a mainstay of Ivorian agriculture, and a key element for national food security.
The application is the result of a double focus:
1️⃣ Robust scientific knowledge, materialized through the selection of relevant indicators, coded in Python tasks, for automatic daily computation.
2️⃣ Tailored UX design, specifically crafted to ensure easy access and understanding of complex information by rice farmers.
The Ivorian Ministry of Agriculture and ADERIZ , the National Agency for the Development of the Rice Sector, are fully involved in the project, as well as the community of rice farmers represented by 8 volunteers who have been testing the app during the last growing season (May to October).
✅ End of November, MFI organized a debriefing workshop to gather users’ feedback and plan for the future steps of the project.
It was a great satisfaction to listen to our “𝘵𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘴” who shared positive experiences and gave detailed examples of how the app enabled them to better schedule their sowing, optimize the use of fertilizers… and in the end be more efficient in their fields! In the spirit of co-creation that has been the hallmark of the project since the beginning, suggestions of improvement were also given.
🗓️ MFI’s team is now ready to work on a new version of the app, based on the conclusions of the workshop. The objective is to deliver an improved app by the end of March 2026, and to give access to a wider number of rice farmers for them to use the tool during the 2026 growing season.
🚀 The official national launch of the finalized app is expected for beginning of 2027, opening great perspectives for the Ivorian rice sector!
